Some of the nation’s largest food retailers promised to Michelle Obama four years ago to open new stores or offer more fresh fruits and vegetables in food desert areas – locations in or around communities with no supermarkets.
The AP found in an investigation that most of the retailers had not yet kept their promise four years later. I worked with a data reporter to put together the interactive that demonstrated the findings and zoned in on one of the communities.
