Amazon buying Whole Foods puts it right next to one-third of America’s richest households

This article analyzes how Amazon’s $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods gave it a physical distribution network near affluent American households, with 75 million Americans living within 3 miles of a Whole Foods store. Using geographic and census data, it demonstrates that Whole Foods locations are concentrated in dense urban areas close to one-third of America’s richest households.
