How America tried and failed to stay White
View project ↗In 1924, the U.S. passed a law to limit immigration. It set a quota system and defined the immigration system of the U.S. A hundred years later, we used data, archival newspapers, and graphics to show that the historical resemblance is real. I worked with columnist Eduardo Porter from the initial vague project idea to the final story presentation.
The first sequence of visuals is a comparison between today and 1924, using archival newspaper articles. I did the archival research and put together the comparison presentation.
The second sequence is a data visualization showing how key immigration bills in history changed the course of immigration in the U.S.
