I analyzed Box Office Mojo data on all 123 superhero movies released since 1978 to show why Marvel timed Avengers: Infinity War for late Apri. The data revealed that half of all superhero films open in May, June, or July, but May has emerged as the clear winner — with less competition from animated features, plus the advantage of staying in theaters through the entire summer, generating the highest box-office receipts of any release month.
