This article explores how Chinese fan-girl culture mobilized online to counter the Hong Kong pro-democracy protests, personifying China as a ‘little brother’ idol to be defended on social media platforms including Weibo, Instagram, and Twitter. The campaign was largely driven by genuine young female fans rather than government-backed propagandists, reflecting the organizational power of China’s celebrity fan-base culture.
