This article examines how COVID-19 drastically reduced US road traffic in major metropolitan areas, using INRIX data to track vehicle speeds on busy highways. Morning and evening rush-hour congestion nearly disappeared as states declared emergencies, with speeds on routes like the Massachusetts Turnpike jumping from 35 mph to over 60 mph.
