
How easy is it to find one patient among 1.3 million anonymized medical records?
View project ↗This story demonstrated how “de-identified” public data can still be used to find specific individuals. Using New York’s database of 1.3 million hospital stays, I built an interactive walkthrough showing how just a few basic details — gender, race, age, and county — could narrow down a patient’s identity, making the abstract privacy risk of anonymized data feel immediate and tangible.
