One in four countries around the world grant birthright citizenship

This article examines birthright citizenship policies worldwide in response to Donald Trump’s proposal to end the practice in the US via executive order. Data from GLOBALCIT shows that about one in four countries (39 out of 174) grant unconditional citizenship to people born on their territory, with the practice most common in the Americas.
