I built a statistical model to predict the 2018 Academy Awards Best Picture winner using quantifiable indicators across four categories: production budgets, critical reviews, other awards won, and audience ratings. Readers can tweak the weights of each category to get a unique outcome based on their preference.

Given equal weights, the model ranked nine nominees, finding only five films had a realistic chance of winning.

The Shape of Water got the Best Picture that year. It indicated that the judges gave more weights to previous awards won. It has been the case for the past few years, too.
