Roughly one of every four votes cast in the 2016 election were recorded on electronic machines that don’t use paper ballots or produce hardcopy receipts. Without any paper backup, there’s no way to know if individual votes cast on them are accurately recorded and no way to conduct a reliable recount. I visualized where the machines were located and how that might have affected the past elections.
